So removed both lights - getting good at this, roughly 20 mins. swapped ballast & bulb from working to non working and vice versa. rested in place, plugged in and tested. new ballast & old bulb working in other headlight (although bulb out message pops up, because of cheap ballast). working ballast & bulb in failed headlight not working. Afternoon.

So it's even more puzzling why it works in his RS6 but not my A3. The only thing I can think of is maybe the connectors are disfigured somewhere and not making contact no more. Headlights quit working. Running lights and dash lights still work. Fuses are all good. Checked with an ohm meter. High and low beams are not working. High beam indicator light on dash does not light up now either.

If it's separate bulbs then   I have a 57 plate 1.6 CMax TDCi and yesterday both dipped headlights stopped working. It seems unlikely that both bulbs will have failed at the same time so 2006 T5 with standard headlights upgraded with the Upspex loom kit.
